Nov 05, 2015 Gnome gives me Proficiency in Tinkers Tools and I can use them to make 3, hard-coded, little baubles. They cost money, break quick, and offer no mechanical ( = Combat) boost. Unlike Rogue and Guild Artificer, Gnome does not explicitly state that I start with Tinker's Tools. If your character is an inventor/engineer then Tinker's Tools is the best fit. EDIT: You don't just get the tools, you also get proficiency with that skill set so who's to say that Cook's Tools are just to make stew over a campfire and not also proficiency in preparing food fit for a.
